hey all,
When I installed service pack 2 on my laptop, i looked in system properties and it misreports my cpu speed. It is a 1GHz celeron and it is reporting it as 306MHz. There has gotta be something wrong with that. Could it be something to do with service pack 2? Andrew.

Possible to be caused by SP2. Just to say, some Windows Updates can cause other problems to happen in XP. For example: If I install the IE 6 Security Update Q832894, I then find that all the Help Topics were gone in Windows HELP Index. All came back when I removed "Internet Explorer Q832894" from Add/Remove Programs list.

It is possible that your CPU speed is adjusting for the running task or tasks?
Try running a couple of programs or several like video files and then check the speed by looking in Start, Run, msinfo32. Look on it's first screen. I believe this utility actually measures the current speed of the processor.
