I had a guy install a second internal HD. Since it was larger than the original, we made the second drive the primary, loaded up XP Media Edition and all was good...but then...

I was certain that we registered the software, but apparently not. Now I can't boot it unless I'm in Safe Mode, and even then I can't re-register it from there. When I say I'd like to register it from the normal boot screen, it churns for awhile then says it's already registered and do I wish to continue. When I say, "yes," it just restarts the whole process all over again.

Is it possible to get out of this loop from heck!?!!?

From safe mode.

copy Windows\System32\Wpa.bak and overwrite Windows\System32\Wpa.dbl, and restart normally.

Back up Windows\System32\Wpa.dbl

Do you mean safe mode from the drive with windows xp media Edition? Or from the old one, which is what I have to use now, even though I have no access to many of the folders on the Media drive. How would I get it to safe mode boot on the Media drive rather than the current one? Is there a boot file I need to rewrite to?

Would it be easier to make the folders accessable? And do you know how I would do it?

Sorry to sound so 'tard.

Please do not start a new thread in regards to an existing issue, it is frowned upon by the moderators. You can always use the "private message" feature to get my attention.

Just in case one of the two threads gets yanked, I'll respond here and at the original one.

You need the wpa.dbl backup (wpa.bak) from the old drive, to replace the copy that is on the new drive. To use the wpa.bak from the old drive you need to change the .bak extension to .dbl, unfortunately at this time you only have access to safemode on the new installation.
