Hi all,

Does anyone know of an alternative to Media Centre edition. Some add on For XP pro that has all the functionality. The netword features are essential to me as i want to connect to my xbox 360. Freeware woould be preferable but anthing is better than having to reinstall with my current setup

Cheers

What is your problem with WMC? Some versions of Vista are intended to surercede WMC. What do you use the computer for?

Hi,

thanks for your reply, I am using XP pro and i do not want to by a copy of MCE just for the media centre functionality. The computer is a HTPC wiht all my music and video stored on it. The xbox 360 has Media center installed on it so it can connect with a PC with media center insatlled. (you can listen to your music while playing games) XP home/pro do not have MC insatlled, hence i want to find a program with similar functionality,

Cheers!

I don't know why you can listen to music while playing games but then agian I don't play games. Maybe you need to try a different player besides WMP. I use Winamp and have been pleased with it. If you DLoad it choose the complete free version and choose custom install. You may not want all the add ons offered and you can untick them.

WMC does have some functions not available in WinXP home but playing music isn't one of them.

Hi,

thank you both for your replies, I will have a look at media portal and see how i get on. I need windows media centre so i can access my music from my xbox, the pc is in another room. I use Winamp all the time except the networking element that is in WMC is not a feature in winamp or WMP either for that matter

Thx
