XP Machine Won't Boot

Dont know DONT KNOW

Specs: Windows XP, dont know
I'm sorry if this has already been posted about but i didn't have time to search for one, i would like a fix asap for my problem.

The problem i have is not of my own so i can't give any computer details, it is my girlfriend's dad's machine that they have in their house and her dad asked me if i could have a look at it because it wouldn't boot.

So i took a look at it and this is what happens.
You press the button on the front to turn it on, it turns on and searches where to boot from, it fails to find where to boot from and then takes you to the menu where you can select:
Boot to safe mode
Safe mode with networking
etc
restore to a previous setting
or
start windows normally.

No matter what one is selected it will look like windows is loading because the windows xp logo comes up with the loading bar underneath it and then it restarts and loops this.

I have been into the setup by pressing delete within the searching process and selected where to boot from, i have tried every one available but this still keeps looping.

I believe the system is XP SP2 not sure though

Anyone able to help, it would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

-Dan

"CPU/Ram: dont know
Manufacturer/Model: Dont know /DONT KNOW
Subcategory: General"

You looked at the machine, but you don't know any of the above?

It would help to know what happened immediately preceding this problem.

I'd start with running chkdsk /r from the Recovery Console.

What happens when you try and load Recovery Console?

the recovery console comes up with the options to boot into safe mode etc but no matter what one you choose it restarts and loops the problem straight back to the recovery console screen

The Recovery Console is not the Boot Options Menu. Boot to the XP CD, select Repair, Select Repair using the Recovery Console, then select the version of Windows to repair, entering the Admin password when prompted. Then at the C:\ type chkdsk /r and Press Enter
