I have a PC within our domain that is shutting down at the end of the night rather than simply logging off. The user will log off and find that her PC will be shutdown the next AM. We have not done any work and I have confirmed she is correctly logging off. Any ideas, this is a brand new machine and installed a month ago, it just started doing it.

Thanks for all your help!

Did you look at the logs? Any chance someone may be powering the machine off manually?

Maybe the janitor is using that wall outlet to power the vacuum cleaner?

LMHO good call! i ACTUALLY did that 22 years ago in 1986, when going thru University had a part time job cleaning offices at night >>>>> pulled the plug out of what i thought was "whatever" not realising it was a computer, to hook up my back-pack vacuum :)

the computer was actually on and "doing something". all hell broke loose the next day, but luckily i kept my job.

hehehehe :)

Also check to see if the computer is set to shutdown after some time if no one is logged in. Some power utils will do this.

Review the logs and any policies on this system.
