I have an XP PC loosing its Network connection.
The first sign of this is Network Mappings are lost!
The PC apparently logs into the Network with no problems apart from warning that it can not restore Network mappings.Note. The NIC is ok as the Server and Router can be pinged with no packet loss!
From a command prompt the Network connection is there, but from within XP it is not possible to explore the LAN.
It's also not possible to surf the Net as XP can not see the Router from within XP!This problem is intermittent.
The last thing I did was change Authentication to MD5.
Restarted PC 3 times, cold boot and is still working.Anyone have this problem? could you please tell me how you fixed it? as I don't think what I have done has resolved it permanently.
Thanx in advance for any help.
Jabba.

need to know the mfg of your ethernet card
are you using WinXP pro
the mfg of your system.cna you ping 127.0.0.1 successefully?
if ethernet came with diagnostic software
usaully in the control panel do a test.it may be a patch cord connection if it's intermitten, change to diffrent cable.
or test the line if you have diagnostic cable test tools. I try this first.are you in a windows domain or other please explain.
if you can ping the the server with out errors it may be a DNS or wins sever problem. please advise.
