Although I do not have a screensaver activated on my computer, after about
10 minutes of sitting idle, the XP login screen "assumes control", and I
have to click my username and enter my password to get back to my Desktop or
whatever program is running. On the XP login screen under my name, XP tells
me how many programs are running and how many unread emails I have. This seems to be running just like a screensaver, but as I said, I do not
have any screensaver enabled, or any power management device which would
account for this behavior. How can I stop this? Is there some registry tweak that needs to be made?Lee

try this: right click on your desktop, go into properties:screensaver:power. inside there, make sure that there isnt anything selected to put you in hibernation or sleep mode. good luck.

Shortly after I posted my message, I stumbled across the solution. It seems that my problems started after I uninstalled a screensaver program I had downloaded and tried. It seems that even though no screensaver was selected after the uninstall, Windows was still remembering the settings for my previous download and substituting it's login screen instead (at least that's my theory, and I'm stickin' with it!).
I solved the problem by loading one of XP's standard screensavers, checking the box for "On resume, display Welcome screen", then unchecking that box, saving my changes, and then going back and reselecting my screen saver option to "none", and saving that. Sounds pretty convoluted, but it worked.
