I got rid of my bro's logon screen so he doesnt have to enter the username everytime he reboots his pc. I ran the control userpasswords2 under "run" and unclicked the box. He rebooted his pc and it asked for his username again..and i told him to remove his account... now he lost his data and log in as administrator and he cant retrive the old files. It kept saying access denied or no permission to retrive. ANy clue?

Dear peacesam,
Try booting from boot disk. Seach for files. Copy or move to a safe location.
Reinstall XP.sree

Um, no, that probably won't work. Odds are the system uses NTFS and a bootdisk won't work.
The files may actually be gone. When you remove an account in XP, it should ask you if you want to delete the users files. It also gives you the option to copy them to another location.
If you are logged in as Administrator, then you should have access to everything. As the admin, open My Computer and browse to C:\Documents and Settings\<your brother's old username>. You should see several folders, but the only ones that probably matter are My Documents, Desktop, and Favorites. Anything that's missing is probably gone for good. Select each of these, right click them, and go to Properties. On the Security tab, click Advanced. Now go to the Owner tab, and select your brother's new account in the list. Click OK, then OK again.
You should be able to copy the contents of these folders to your brother's new profile. That should do it, but if you still have problems accessing the files, you may need to adjust some security settings.
Post back if you run into any issues.

thanks for the help....
xp is very weird, actually that happened to me before... they never asked to confirm the delete process. He never set up the admin password and when he rebooted his pc, the login screen prompted, theres no way to pass that screen because we dont know the default adminstrator password.
My bro found a way to unlock the folders. Now, he has to go thru every single folder to unlock the security, he said he click on the box " apply to all sub directories" but it didnt work out.
thank you guys
