Hello:
I just built a box and the specs are as follows:
mobo: ECS K7S5A; SiS chipset
HDD: WD 40GB 7,200 RPM
Bios: AMI 07.00T
SM BIOS version 2.3
RAM, 1 GB PC 133 (Micron, 2 512 MB sticks)
HSF: DragonOrb3
Vid card. Nvidia GeForce2 32 MB
OS: XP Pro, 5.1.2600
LAN: Onboard Sis 900
Audio Onboard Sis AC '97 CodecInstalled software:
Office 2000
Everything Adobe has
Winamp
ULead Cool 3DProblems:
XP will not come out of sleep mode. Only doing a reset or powering down brings it back up.
LAN fails often, and only uninstalling the NIC driver and reinstalling-and then rebooting solves it. Will then have a bet connection for anywher from 5 to 50 minutes.
What I have tried:Disabled ACPI
Forced IRQ's; no devices shared
Disabled onboard audioAlso reformatted the drive and installed 98SE, W2k and XP with no third party software.
Allowed XP to use native drivers
Does anyone think this could be a memory problem?
I've used a number of these boards and not had a problem but this has become the project from hell.
I can live with the LAN issue as there are extra PCI slots and can RMA the mobo in a few months.I can't live with the lockups and freezes--which happened in both W2K and XP.
Any ideas here?
TIA
Kev

I am having a similar problem. The computer occasionaly (once per day or more) freezes. Most of the times it is when the computer is left idle for a while. Just now it did not recover from blank screen saver. Anyway.
When I installed XP, I also added 2x256Mb PC133 oem memory. I put back my old memory and the problem went away for almost a week. I got another oem 1x512Mb and the problem reappeared. I kept the case OPEN (one side open, better circulation probably), and the problem did not occur for a couple of days. I closed the case, and it started to freeze again.
Now that I was reasonably sure that I had the problem identified. I confidently removed the 512Mb, put back the original 128Mb and it froze again :-(((
Project from hell, surely!
BTW, it is a Micron PC with a Tyan motherboard, GeForce 32Mb, Aureal Vortex 2 (which does not work either).
Let me know if you find a solution.

If you think you may have a memory problem, use a good memory diagnostic to prove or disprove your theory. Memtest86 is both good and free. Search google for it, download and run it.

disable AGP fastwrite in your bios, it will cause conflicts with your geforce 2 card which will cause it to lockup.
Download the latest nvidia drivers.
right-click the desktop and go to properties, click your settings tab, click advanced, click the troubleshoot tab, and uncheck enable write combining. RESTART!!!
THIS WILL SOLVE YOUR LOCKUP AND FREEZING PROBLEM....

Actually, I think I found the problem.
It is strange ...
When the phone rings the system locks up.
The modem works fine to dial out. I have
a Actiontec call waiting PCI modem. I'll
try to use Win2K driver.
