XP Loading stuck at splash screen

July 11, 2010 at 07:28:21
Specs: Windows XP, 2.1 GHz / 3962 MB
My computer boots up normally until it gets to the windows loading screen (with the flag and the progress bar). Unlike other problems where the loading bar keeps going on and on, mines stay stuck (not moving). I tried rebooting it a few times and it works so i didnt bother with it. But this morning it got stuck again, once again i tried rebooting it a few more times (3 at most) and it works again...both of these problems appeared in the morning so i thought maybe at night it could be the problem. Perhaps using the laptop for 4 hours, or perhaps NOT using it for a long time since the laptop is turned off. I'm not sure if it matters but i mostly use the laptop plugged with the charger because i dont see why i should use the laptops battery if i have the charger (I do let the battery run dry then recharging it every once in a while)

Help would be appreciated.

... I always used my laptop through mains with battery removed or inserted because it was say a knackered one!

... next time you manage to log into Windows go to "start" run and type:

CHKDSK C: /F [Press] OK

... it'll prompt you to type "y" so next time it starts up it'll check your harddrive and fix any errors!
