Hi, I joined 11/24/03, I am new to this website, so please don't critize the ways I explain stuff. I am on another one of my
computers, typing this. My XP started rebooting left and right on 11/22. My computer is password protected. That afternoon on 11/22, when I start up my win xp, it immediatly restarted, the 2nd time I typed in my password in the black screen, it restarted agian. I physically rebooted my xp, but nothing helped. Even when I set it in Safe mode, it restarts itself and boots normally and restarts again in the middle of boot up. I need help quickly and good step by step instructions NOW!!! If my explaining is not that clear or you need more detail please say so in your response and I will fix my post. But please give me help quickly!

The problem may stem from one of many factors.

Was the computer running properly prior to 11/22?

What have you added hardware or software since the problem began.

Did you upgrade to XP or clean install.

Please list as many particulars about your pc that you can off the top of your head (ex. processor, motherboard, power supply)

The following will let you reinstall without losing any of your personal settings.

1. When the Press any key to boot from CD message is displayed on your screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.
2. Press ENTER when you see the message To setup Windows XP now, and then press ENTER displayed on the Welcome to Setup screen.
3. Do not choose the option to press R to use the Recovery Console.
4. In the Windows XP Licensing Agreement, press F8 to agree to the license agreement.
5. Make sure that your current installation of Windows XP is selected in the box, and then press R to repair Windows XP.
6. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Setup.
See these Knowledge Base articles for more information on reinstalling Windows XP.
If you can boot at all you need to go to the run box and type in sfc /scannow. This will restore all files back to install atate.
