Okay, I wake up monday morning and send an email, my computer is working okay, no problems Then I need to restart, and I can't seem to do so, when I try to restart I get the screen that says that windows did not start successfully and a recent hardware or software change might have coused this. They give me the following options:
Safe
Safe mode w/networking
Safe mode w/command promptLast known good configuration
Start Windows Normally
Only when I select ANYTHING the XP loading screen comes and then the Blue screen of death shows up and it mentions a registry error and "starting dump of physical memory" and then "Physical dump complete" And the computer the process repeats with it rebooting again, and XP never loads. I don't have the XP recovery disk with me (I'm on vacation) but can anyone tell me what to do to once I have the disk to save my laptop!!!!
Peace

Can't do much without the XP CD, unless you have Recovery Console installed. It should show up in the boot menu if it is.
WILL POST FOR FOOD.

Got the same problem on the same day.
Could it have anything to do with the latest Windows fix (which I installed over the weekend) or could it be virus related?

Looked on the HP site and the following advice is given:

Thanks for the help guys, but I was wondering what I should do once I get the CD in a couple days.
Peace

Tried booting from XP floppy from bootdisk.com and I got an error message saying hal.dll was missing.
Tried another one which gave me access to the CD drives (labelling as R and S and any commands with C resulted in invalid directory messages).
Then tried winnt.exe on the XP CD from DOS and got an error message saying that the swap file could not be located.
Tried the XP CD - booting from CD and went through the install option so that it would find previous installations of Windows which it did and identified the C Drive installation but did not give a repair option.
I went through the boot from CD again and selected the repair option from the outset and selected the C: Windows installation to repair but then I was prompted for an Administrator password. I never had an Admin password setup, so I could not go any further than this.Does anyone have any ideas? or do I now have to go through a fresh install and lose all my data?

Yes I tried every possible password combination I could think of that I might have used at some point and tried enter after nothing also - always returning the password is not valid.
I did some investigation myself and this is a problem identified by Microsoft (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=308402)it is due to the fact that I have an OEM version and the cloning method and there is a workaround included when booting from a Windows XP SP1 or SP2 disk.
I have the original XP disk, so now have to source a newer version.

Got the XP CD with integrated SP2 - booting from this allowed me into the Recovery Console by pressing enter when prompted for a password. Then fixboot and chkdsk /r solved the problem. I got a message saying a registry error had been fixed once I got to the desktop
