Comment:

just couple days ago i started having problem with my computer.

1st: when i start up my computer i get two error messages, which are

1st message error
C:\windows\config\csrss.exe
only part of a readprocess memory or writeprocess request was complete.

2nd message error
C:\windows\system32\itdtdodm.dll can't be found.

that dll seemed suspious. so i did virus scan but nothing came up.

2nd issue:
window update wont turn on, i even tried manually on but it will go back to off.
i even tried to run command services.msc and i went to automatic update and the statue was disable, i changed it to start and automatic but it wont change at all.

3rd issue:
my internet explorer has been set to accepts all cookies, which it wasnt before the problem start. i reset it to medium high and i restart the internet explorer it goes back to accepts all cookies.

4th issue:
i tried to restore my system to earlier time, but it wont go past this month. it stays on MAY only. i did it on safe mood but still the same it wont move back to perivous months.

what seem to be the problems i have tried eveything in my power and knowlegde but i have ran out of ideas on how to solved this issue. if i can get solution for system restore that will be pretty nice.

please help me solve this problem. your help is apperciate it. many thanks guys

If the problem started only a few days ago, why not restore to a day from early last week?

To restore go to Start> helpand support> undo changes with System Restore. Choose a restore point that pre-dates the problem.

csrss.exe could be a virus. You can do a Google search with "csrss.exe" and maybe get some help.

You could try online scans at:
http://housecall.antivirus.com/
http://www.bitdefender.com/scan/lic...
http://www.pandasoftware.com/active...
http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvir...

And you could try the Security and Virus forum.

You should be running an Anti-Virus and a Firewall, if you're not.

C:\windows\config\csrss.exe may be a virus. csrss.exe is a legitimate Windows process but the path you have is not correct.

Scan for Viruses. Look at the link below too.

You said "i tried to restore my system to earlier time, but it wont go past this month. it stays on MAY only. i did it on safe mood but still the same it wont move back to perivous months." That's why I suggested restoring to the beginning of last week.

I suspect you have a virus (or at least the remnants of one). Don't rely on only one virus scan, do all the online scans linked to by aegis (response number 4).

Try using msconfig to disable all startup programs, except your antivirus and firewall. If this appears to solve your problems, you know that at least one of those startup programs was causing the trouble.

Please let us know if you found someone's advice to be helpful.

Look at the links below. Also, turn off System restore until after you clean up your system.

A full description of this file can be found here:

It would appear to be a legitimate MS Client Server Runtime Process.

Once I thought I was wrong, now I'm not so sure!

While C:\windows\system32\csrss.exe may be a legitimate file, C;\\windows\config\csrss.exe may not be.

i just start up my computer and csrss.exe didnt show up at startup programs. but itdtdodm.dll shows up error message that couldnt be found. cause i have deleted that dll. i disable it from msconfig startup programs but it still shows up that error message.

i forget to mention that i used to have kespersky antivirus long time ago. i have removed that program and install bitdefender. and kespersky still shows up on msconfig startup program even thought i disable it from starting up. i deleted reg file but it comes back.

ohthehill: i clicked on the first link u provided. it was good info. i fellow the instrucation, it was asking to look for reg key under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\
with sub-key explorer.exe. but there isnt that subkey explorer.exe. but since i think since i have deleted csrss.exe thats why its not showing in there.

Did you also disable system restore?

This thread should have been posted in the Security forum. That said I would suggest you download the latest version of Spybot search & Destroy. That program may have a fix for your problem as it seems to deal with worms and trojans in addition to adware.

Another helpful utility is CCleaner. There is a registry cleaner there that is very easy to use. Once you have removed some files it may be able to remove the remaining registry entries. Additionally, CCleaner clean utility empties folders that normally aren't purged. Find both below.

You frequently say you have done virus scans.

But, Do you check for, and remove, Spyware ??
Spyware includes ----
Adware, Dialers, Browser Hijackers, Trojans, Cookies,
Key Loggers, Trackware, and other Malware while browsing the internet.

Most Virus and Spyware scans are likely to work better in Windows Safe-Mode.
---------------------
You say,
i even tried to run command services.msc and i went to automatic update and the statue was disable, i changed it to start and automatic but it wont change at all.

Double click on that service, then see what it says next to the words "Startup type"
-----------------------
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pr...
Frequently Asked Questions Regarding System Restore in Windows XP

For each new day, a Restore Point is created when your computer sits IDLE for a period of time.
System Restore calls them "System Checkpoint".
------------------
Open Task Manager, then on the Process tab,
see how many CSRSS.exe you have showing.
More than one, is a problem.
------------------
Programs can run from three places at startup:
1.The Startup groups
(Startup folders or msconfig Startup tab)
2.The "run=" and "load="
lines in the Win.ini file.
3.The Run and RunOnce lines in the registry
(Lots of those)

No, SP3 isn't going to remove any trojans, malware or viruses. On the contrary, installing a service pack with those items on the system would probably cause your system to not boot properly.

Did you try the original instructions again from the links I supplied above. You need to do those things with system restore disabled.
