Xp Installing issues

Specs: Windows XP
I have an HP Pavilion a520n Desktop...3200 amd athlon processor 2.20 gh....512 mb memory...160 gb hd...windows xp home edition sp2

The issue I am having is the hd went out.I bought a new seagate 160 gb hd to replace it.When I install windows...it never gives me the option to press any key to boot from cd. It waits about a minute and takes it upon itself to install windows. After the first install, and my pc reboots...it still does not give me an option to press a key and it goes right back to installing windows.I have checked the bios and the hd and cr are both recognized.I have the cd first.I have even set the hd to go first after the first inital set up but no luck. I took everything out of the case and just installed what the pc needed to start...I put one memory card in at a time and tried in different slots....both the hd and the dvd burner is set on cable select.I have even played with the jumpers to see if that makes a difference but it doesnt.Just to see what would happen,,,I took the hd out of the hp pavilion and put it into my home built pc...and windows loaded up fine without a glitch....I even used kill disk to completely erase hd and put back into the pavilion. But I get the same issues...could I have a motherboard issue even tho it is recogning the hd and dvd burner?

Did you find out the cause of the hard disk failure - if the hard disk failure was caused by a faulty component then that component could still be playing up

Try unplugging everything (even taking the expansion cards out - if you feel confident enough to), and just leaving the keyboard, CD drive and motherboard connected to the motherboard

If this works, then install windows, and connect each device once at a time and try to find out what is malfunctioning

Hope that this helps
