Any Ideas on what the problem is, I searched the Microsoft Web site for this error code description and found nothing on it.
Thanks, Chuck

yea, i got a similar problem, except my cd doesn't even boot correctly... same cdboot error, code: 4
any suggestions there?

When reading your post Chuck Male I noticed that your memory comfiuration doesn't match what is in the tyan manual. I too had a configuration which did not match the manual and ended up with the same error. I had three sticks of PC-2100 ddr memory 250MB each and ended up removing one and everything started to work for me. Hope this helps.

I doubt that the error is with the actual CD itself. Our university bought into the Microsoft Campus Agreement not too long ago, and I've been installing XP on our systems here. The older boards though have been very problematic. I have 3 Soyo SY-6BB boards with old Celeron 333MHz, the first one told me ACPI was non-compliant and had to be shut off. The second I switched video cards, shut off ACPI and a few other things and got the install to go through. My third gets this error code #4 business, and I have not been able to get past it. I can take the CD out though and go install it just fine on another computer.
My next try of course is going to be changing PCI slots on the Video Card. Its well known to some by now that which slot a card is in can make a difference in XP. Plug and Play will assign different interrupts or IRQs in some cases, and can lead to non-functionality. For instance many SB Live users had to change slots of the card to get it to work properly.

I also have doubt it's the CD. I just spent 3 1/2 hours trying to get win2k to install on a friends computer. We tried 3 different full-version CDs with no luck. I should also note that all three of these CDs installed fine on a different PC.
Unfortunately, I don't have all the stats on my friend's PC handy. It's an AMD 900 system with a 20 gig WDC. His CD-ROM is actually a 12x/4x/32x Burner. I was theorizing last night that this may have something to do with the problem. I also theorized that turning off ACPI may make a difference as well, however, I didn't test this particular theory as I was well past the stage of tired frustration.
Anyone think the fact that I was using a CD Burner might be the problem?

Oh yea...the problem I had: "Cannot load ntldrmp.exe - Error Code 4"

I had the same Error-Code with my brandnew System. It can´t be the CD, because it worked fine on my old Computer. On the new one, not only the installation of WinXP, but also of Win2k (Error Code:14) and Win98 failed with similar error messages.
Error Code:4, can´t load setupdd.sys
System: Athlon XP 1800,256 MB DDRAM (Micron),MSI KT266 Board with RAID (disabled),IBM 60 GB, Samsung DVD, Plextor 12/10/24 Burner, ProLink Pixelview GeForce2 64MB.

I had the same error 4 problem and i removed one of the memory sticks and it worked fine after that.
