OS: XP Media Center
CPU/Ram: Intel pentium 4, 512 ram
Product: HP
Comment:

I was installing XP media center on a reformatted hd - the installation froze at 38% complete. Finally after waiting 2 hours I shut down the PC. Now when I turn on the pc all I get is the fans, hd power light (which stays on), dvd power lights and a black screen with no video display. No floppy drive lights and no post beeps. HELP?!? I cannot get the system to boot from a CD or even go through the post menu.
Can anyone help?
Thanks!

You have a serious hardware problem. A defective power supply, motherboard or (less likley) some othr device in the system keeping the motherboard from working properly.

Its a brand new case with a brand new power supply - the power works fine. After the freeze I have been unable to get it to go through the post screen - or any screen for that matter.. so your saying the motherboard could be fried?

I realize I have a problem, i'm trying to figure out what happened and why - everything was working just fine. The case and power supply are brand new - its not a power issue... can anyone help?
Thanks!!

do get the post screen? are you able to enter the bios?

open the case, make sure all cards and ram chips are still seated properly in their slots.

strip the machine of everything exccept ram and video card and try again.

"Its a brand new case with a brand new power supply"

I just love it when someone makes a statement such as this, but doesn't feel it's necessary to elaborate <sarc>

OK, what brand case did you buy? What brand PSU came with it? What's the wattage of the PSU? How many amps on the +12v rail(s)? I notice for Manufacturer/Model you put HP. Are you simply tranferring the contents of an HP machine to a non-HP case?

You have a lot of 'splaining to do, Lucy

When installing the motherboard, did you make sure that motherboard mounting studs were only installed where there were holes in the motherboard?
