My XP files are corrupted. Is there a way to install the XP system files only from a recovery disk? Edit/Delete Message

Simplest way is to do a repair install - boot from XP disk & choose 'install' (ignore the recovery console option). When it detects an existing installation you will get an option to repair it, which essentially just replaces the system files.

Pretty much the same thing. Both replaces the windows file with the ones on the cd. Only the sfc might work with files on the hard drive or recovery cd. When I had Windows 98 se and ran sfc it would replace files from windows\options\cabs on the hard drive on my Compaq pc. That pc only had a recovery disk with an extra partition for the recovery files.

It just seems wiser to do the sfc, because it is so easy and I think the other way sometimes people goof and reinstall windows and they end up with 2 sp's on in a folder?
