xp install stops short 1min at end

Tried reinstalling xp on friends brand new P4 Asus mb with LG cdrom RWRW. When it gets to 1 min from finishing install, it goes to the xp splash screen then the video signal disapears and restarts to the safe mode selection screeen stating not properly installed os, tried 3 times same thing. thinking the Bios needs upgrade for the LG 52x cdrom, help . have to go back to get model no.'s

It sounds like one of the cards in the machine doesn't like the XP drivers.
Pull the sound, network and modem cards out and see if the machine will start normally, then replace the cards one-by-one to find out which is causing the problem.

You may have to start the reinstallation from scratch if the current installation did not complete.
AFAIK LG drives are fully supported by XP although you can download replacement drivers from the LG site.
Does the mobo have a VIA chipset or an Intel chipset. 4-in-1 drivers are needed for VIA chipsets to work properly with XP.
