I have ver 2002 build 2600.

It will boot from DOS and i format and install the OS clean.

Everything works fine without errors. When the computer reboots i get the windows XP splash and then I get the windows XP splash with:

Please wait....

I let it run last night for 5 hours just to make sure i wasnt being impatient. No good, it just locks there.

When i reboot the computer it comes to the welcome screen looking for the Administrator login. I log in and everything seems fine, but almost none of the application work. (windows media player 8, ect)

I installed the same CD on a different computer with different hardware and everything worked perfectly.

My specs are...

ASUS K7V motherboard.
AMD Athalon 800mhz
128 meg of ram
Hercules prophet Geforce 3.

Please help!!

Try going into safe mode by pressing f8 at the time you see you boot menu.
Then go into hardware properties and update drivers.

I have the same motherboard (maybe), it's an Asus A7V133-VM with AMD Athlon 1.2GHz.
I was running Win 2000 Pro Norwegian. I adjusted the settings so I could see all hidden files and folders. Had a shortcut to CD-Rom on my desktop. I opened a window and deleted absolutely everything that remided me about Windows, including systemfiles but except the WINNT folder. Clicked then on the CD-ROM, and installed Xp Pro without any problems. Later I deleted the WINNT folder from Xp. No problems here!

YES!! I have figured it out and everything is working perfect now!

Anyone using the ASUS mother board K7V needs to flash the bios to current. Ver 1007

After doing this the install ran perfectly and everything is working fine!!

Thanks all!
