XP install and ATA/133 PCI adapter

I’m attempting to upgrade from Windows 98 SE to Windows XP Pro. I have a Maxtor 40 gig HD that is connected to the motherboard through an ATA/133 PCI adapter. The only obstacle I’m encountering is the following during XP installation: “Hardware Compatibility Issues Setup has found hardware on your computer that is incompatible with (that is, it does not work with) Windows XP……..SCSI controllers WinXP Promise Ultra133 TX2 (tm) IDE Controller…” I attempted to update the driver for this device with the XP driver from the Maxtor install CD and tried again to install Win XP and got the same results. In each case I got a blue screen telling me basically that the install could not proceed and so forth. Following advice from the Maxtor knowledgebase I then tried using MaxBlast 1.30 to format my HD and do a clean install and that didn’t work the way the Maxtor described it would. At every corner I’ve encountered more problems then I can mention here. Has anyone had a similar experience and found a resolution? Thanks in advance.

Connect your hard drive to the standard IDE controller and install XP. Then install the Windows drivers for your ATA133 controller. After that you should be able to move the hard drive back to it.
