Sorry Doc. You can not do a full install from the upgrade. An upgrade installs the the files that are not on your last operating system. The full install loads everything to a blank hard drive. If you have 98 or another Microsoft product installed on your system you can use the upgrade. If you don't you have to buy the full install.

You can do a full install with the upgrade disc as long as you have a full version of 98 or higher

Don't use the Upgrade get the full version(Check out ebay you can get XP PRO Full for around 200 maybe cheaper if your a smart Ebayer) 2nd dont get XP Home, get the pro version, it's way better and there are less issues with PRO compared to Home.

Brown1955, you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. The upgrade is simply to verify that you have used a Windows product in the past that qualifies for the upgrade.
You can most certainly do a full install using the XP Pro or Home upgrade. You just need to have your 98, ME, or 2000 CD available when it asks you for it.

I will have to agree with Vb Dude,if you are going to spend the money and get a full version go with XP Pro it does seem to be a bit better than XP Home.

Bryan is right. I have installed XP on a blank Hard Drive with the XP-Home Upgrade for a Pastor who reformatted his Hard Drive and figured out he has only an Upgrade CD of XP. After a few minutes it just ask to insert a Win98 CD, after a few seconds setup says to swap the CDs and XP-Home Full Version was beeing installed. Same works with XP-pro and even Win98 Upgrade that wants tom see a few disketts of Win3.1

You can do a full install with the upgrade CD . You will need an old 98 or 95 or whatever to verify ownership of an upgradeable product. You can do this on a Brand New HardDrive. And Go with the XP Pro it is much better than Home.
