2y/o Dell can only boot to safe mode, turned off system restore a long time ago. Need to have important files (about 20GB worth of movies, pics and MP3s) to an external HD that I will soon be purchasing.

How do I get the important files to the external HD if I can only boot to safe mode and can I load the drivers for the HD in safe mode?

ok man, my recommendation here is toss on a parallel install of windows
toss in your XP cd if you have one... 2 years old it should have one, anyway, tosss in your OS disk and boot to it when it gives the option to install windows on this hard drive choose yes but with the folder \windowsxpfixfile or something of the sort, install it there, and back up the data
