Problem: The System32 folder opens at startup or re-boot. Checked this out at microsoft and they said to check some registry keys. I'm finding a bunch of (Default) entries in Registry Keys with incomplete Data values - (value not set).
I fixed the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run key to read Value Data - SysTray.exe, but the problem remeains.
I also noticed that there is another Run Key named "Run-" that contains only one entry Name - (Default), Type - REG_SZ, Data - (value not set)...
QUESTIONS:
1) Do I even need this "Run-" entry/folder?
2) If yes, what should the Data value be for this (Default) entry?
Any ideas on how I can fix the issue of the System32 folder opening at startup? Thanks.

A 'Run-' entry is an entry that has been disabled. I don't think it's the cause of your problem.
The '-' means do not run.

You can delete it. But it might not be a bad idea to export it first (just in case).

Sorry, I don't have a clue for a fix.

"Any ideas on how I can fix the issue of the System32 folder opening at startup?"

- Look here & scroll down to item #260--System32 Folder Opens Upon Boot--on the right pane.

- Click on that text & save the file to your desktop.

- Click on the file to run it.

- If you get a disclaimer or warning from trying to run the VBS file, don't worry. Allow it to run, the file will not harm your machine.

Thanks, aegis and Sabertooth, for the quick replies. I downloaded the vbs from kelly's, and I'll give it a try later today. Right now my pc is busy, but I'll be sure to let you know how it goes.

Ran this script - xp_system32opens.vbs (573 bytes); received this message -
"This script cannot repair your issue. The expected Registry value was not found".
Any other suggestions? Thanks.

System32 folder@ Startup--check the replys here:

I had this happen to a friends computer, after we Cancelled the already started installation of
Yahoo Messenger. Canceling the the installation had caused System32 folder to show up at boot.

So, another day we reinstalled Y.M., and problem went away.
