hi, i dont know why sometimes (1 of 3 times) my pc gets stuck at startup, evertything goes right until i double-click on any application, it just doesnt do anything until after 5 or 10 minutes..... after that time all of the things i clicked on appear and everything starts working perfectly...

i try to find out what's happening in the task manager but nothing appears, only the INACTIVE SYSTEM PROCESS which at that time is consuming 99% of my processor...
what is wrong with it? it is not infected, i've scanned it with my antivirus and with one of internet (online)...

thanks in advance....

p.s. it's a compaq, pentium 4, XP Home...

This could be difficult to isolate, as there could be many causes. I would start by cleaning up your Startup routine. Go to START (menu)/Run and type MSCONFIG. Click on the Startup tab and inspect the various items that are loading when you boot up. Un-check anything you don't absolutely have to have when you boot up. If the problem goes away, you know one of those items is the culprit. If not, you're back to sqaure one. Without some kind of error code, you're searching for a phantom that could be lurking anywhere.

I also recommend a registry cleaner. I use Norton WinDoctor from the Norton Utilities Suite. I don't like most of the other utilities in the suite, but WinDoctor does a good job of helping keep the registry free of stray and orphaned code. All reg cleaners are not created equal, so do your home work if you decide to use one, and use it judiciously. Always make sure you back up your registry in case something goes wrong.

Hope this helps.

Just my personal advice on kazaa.I wouldn't use that site after all the problems with virus etc..Elvis has some good ideas.I had slow startups on my xp home also.I got a start up manager for a while. But you will be surprised at how many programs start up automatically at boot up.A free registry cleaner that I use and like is Reg Cleaner 4.3 by Juono Vuorio. From yahoo type in reg cleaner on yahoo search. It has backups and a lot of options. It is windows xp compatible .
