Hi, I have a new Dell that came with XP Home. I upgraded to XP Pro using the upgrade CD, legit (purchased in Sept).

All works okay, though not great (I get a lot of WFP error msgs). So to get rid of them and stay current, I went to install SP 1a. (Home may have had SP 1 upgrade already, but the XP Pro upgrade indicated that no SP was installed; it was plain XP Pro, so an upgrade appeared advisable.)

SP 1a took forever to download and install, but it did ... except afterward I totally lost the mouse (USB)! No signal to it from the pc (no light on the mouse), and the cursor was frozen.

Uninstalling SP1a (via keystrokes) restored the mouse. But clearly something is not right.

Any ideas and any help??!! This is getting kinda desperate and I cannot get Dell on the phone.

thanks!

PS
and now when I went to explore (anxiously) the sys restore feature I got the 'rstrui.exe entry point not found' craziness. Man oh man, what gives?? Btw, no viruses per latest Norton scan with latest defs update.
