I've not been successful in several attempts to install XP Home (full) on an older Compaq Presario 7360 (AMD K6-2 500MHz, 100 MHz bus) with a 10GB hdd.
I booted using Win98SE startup disk, then fdisk'ed (deleting both partitions, then creating one new partition) and formatted the hdd in FAT32.Rebooted with WinXP CD.
Installation begins to copy files. I press F8 key to agree to MS's mumbo jumbo, then say to install XP on current partition.
As soon as I press Enter, the setup thermometer appears briefly, the screen goes black and the installation stops.
What's going on? How do I get past this issue?
Thanks for any help.

try deleting the partition once inside instead of installing on the current partition...reformat it with NTFS
