help ) built new comp for wifes b-day everything is new mk40vn shuttle mobo amd 1800+ sony dvd/rom 256 ddr crucial 40gb wd400 formated the hd to c/ useing the xp home oem disk all is well untill it starts copying the list of files then i get an error ,press enter to re-enter check to see if the disk is in the drive press esc to skip file so on what do i do help thnks this is a legal copy bought with a hd

its a new sony dvd/rom i tried another cdrom i hv its only a 6x but i still got the error

Make sure that on the hard drive the jumper is set to master, and your bios is set to master.

the wd400 is the only drive on the cable so i followed the directions and set the jumper to single all that in is the comp is a dvdrom and a floppy everything has its own cable and its all new there are no other jumpers to set the dvd is set to master it will boot any help is greatly appreciated

It has to be set to> master wo/slave.
If the dvd is on it's on cable then set it to> master.
Go in to the bios and set both drives to auto. Save and exit.

Check that you memory is correctly seated i have had this error a few times on pc's i have built it has either been the memory was not quite seated or the memory was faulty. Take the memory back to the place you bought it from and get them to check it

i hv checked the memory its ok i called wd the jumper is right did change out the dvd to check that and i get the same thing i purchased a license so i could install a legal copy of xp home oem on this new hd i hv xp in my other comp which was built before christmas iam useing that disk to install i had read that there are self exstracting files on the new xp disks so you can only use it to install once dosent make much sence to do this but it could be true any help again is greatly appreciated tky
