XP home edition freezes during install?

Hi,

I've had the same problem three times:
1.) fdisk C: to have no partitions
2.) XP install creates NTFS partition, formats (tried 60G one time, then 10G another)
3.) XP installs normally, until the screen reading "Music and entertainment just got better". At this point the mouse freezes and the status lights in the bottom right corner stop moving.

I have formatted/installed three different times and get this error every time. The computer I am using is as follows:
ECS K7VZA motherboard, AMD 1.4GHz CPU
512MB PC133 SDRAM
GeForce 4X AGP Video
Samsung 60GB Hdd
DVD Drive
CDRW Drive

I can install 98 and have the computer operate correctly, and Windows ME even seems to run correct when upgraded from 98. Attempting to move to XP causes the all kinds of problems (I have had XP running on this machine before -- when I upgraded from 98->ME->XP, but it only booted once before getting a blue screen while booting (Windows has been shut down to protect hardware. heh.).

Anyone else have major problems like this while installing? Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
jm

No promises, but try this. Go into your Bios and Change your AGP from 4x back to 2x and see what happens then. Sometimes the Geforce set at 4X can cause problems. But like I said, no promises!!

Verno, you're awesome. I set the card to 2x instead of 4x in BIOS, and that seems to have fixed the problem.

Thanks for your help,

Well,

That didn't exactly work. After all the configuration screens, windows blue screened, with 'IRL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL' as the error. Since then, reinstalling is giving me the same problems as before (locking up).

Now, is there a log file somewhere of the install process? If so, I could maybe see what is causing it to lock up. So far, I'm not impressed with XP. This is a brand new machine, and shouldn't have any problems running/installing XP.

I have the same problem if is use my Geforce DDR Pro with the same error messages etc. I'm now using a rather bad 8mb agp card and all is fine. If you manage to get the Geforce thing solved mello, can you mail em and let me know how??

Cheers
Jason.

Good, someone else is having the same problem... or at very least a similar one. What model GeForce do you have? I haven't tried installing a new AGP card yet, but I suppose that's on the list of stuff to try.

Installing a PCI/another AGP card solved the problem though?

Hey all, I had the same problem (only my install didn't get half that far) until I swaped out my new GeForce2 MX 400 for a cheapo GeForce2 MX 200, then after the installation was done and everything checked out I reinstalled the new card & everything has worked fine since.
