when I start up, I get a message RE: ccRegVfy.exe: "This application has failed to start because SYMSTORE.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." This happened after I tried to install the latest Norton Anti-Virus from disk. My system froze, then I tried to do a system restore, and now I'm getting this message. how do I re-install? Should I re-install WinXP? And can I do an XP reinstall without having to reload all my programs and files? thanks, John

Auto-protect and E-mail check will not function without this file.
You need to uninstall Norton and start over again.
Just reboot computer then press f8 at the start up to get to safe mode.
Then go into control panel and remove that norton. Search hardrive for symnatec folder and delete it. Then go to start run and type in regedit.
Navigate to htkey local machine software and again delete the symnatec folder.
Now reboot and see if you get back in xp.

Ok, I deleted all the Symantec stuff like you said, but on re-boot, I still get the missing component message quoted above. How do I reinstall the application.
