Hello. Running xp home. System hangs on bootup when it gets to mup.sys. Tried recover console but hangs there too. Can't start system. Any thoughts? Thanks
Goodwin

Boot your system while holding down F8. At the Windows Advanced Options Menu select Last Known Good Configuration.
If that does not work, run System Restore in Safe Mode.
To run the Recovery Console on a system that will not start, do the following:
Start your system with the win xp cd in the cd-rom drive.
Follow the directions on the screen. Loading files may take several minutes. Choose the options to repair your Win xp installation when prompted and finally to start the Recovery Console when prompted.
Hope this helps. Bye

My system just started doing the same thing a week ago, and again today. The problem isn't persistant, I can start my system fine for about a week and then it does it all over again. Last night I shut down my system, woke up this morning and it did the same thing again. So I shut it down again, had breakfast and now it works fine. Please let me know if you find out how to fix this problem.

Hey Rick. I have no help for you. I gave up and wiped the drive clean and reloaded. I tried everything I could think of. I loaded windows 2000 to gain access to the xp drive and tried a few things but nothing worked. I found on the net other people with the same problem but no solution. Sorry.
Thanks Joseph for the reply. I could not gain access to the recovery console at all it just hung.

I think I'm going to do the same thing, oh well. Do you think the problem might stem from a bad memory chip? I think one of my two 128mb sdram chips might have gone bad since my AMD system with three hard drives runs so hot, and the problem didn't start until I shut it down one night.
I hope your problems are solved now. Good luck.
Rick
