i shut down my computer the other night and closed the top before it went off. when i opened it again i noticed that it did not shut down all the way and the screen was frozen. I had to do a hard shut down. When i went to re-start the computer, it froze as XP was starting up. I tried to re-install the software but it still freezes and I can not boot in safe-mode. The motherboard has already been replaced twice in the last year. Any ideas? Thanks, snoopy

See event log if you can. If not, you might try a system repair using the xp booted from cd. If that doesn't work then use linux live cd to try to get your data off and then consider a clean install. Might have to use a diag test suite or other tests to determine if your system is OK. In many cases it is difficult to pin down to either software or hardware.
