i shut down my computer the other night and closed the top before it went off. when i opened it again i noticed that it did not shut down all the way and the screen was frozen. I had to do a hard shut down. When i went to re-start the computer, it froze as XP was starting up.
I tried to re-install the software but it still freezes and I can not boot in safe-mode. The motherboard has already been replaced twice in the last year. Any ideas?
Thanks, snoopy

What software did you try and reinstall, and how did you do that if the OS freezes?

See event log if you can. If not, you might try a system repair using the xp booted from cd.
If that doesn't work then use linux live cd to try to get your data off and then consider a clean install.Might have to use a diag test suite or other tests to determine if your system is OK. In many cases it is difficult to pin down to either software or hardware.
"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

What happens when you attempt to boot to the CD?
