I have a dell XP workstation that just suddenly started to freeze on its own for no apparent reason. Any suggestions on what to check?
There is 29 GB of harddrive space free.
I tried rebooting, still same problem on occasion. No STOP errors in the eventvwr

Where does it freeze? Randomly, when you do certain things, or only on the internet?
When does it freeze? Randomly, or only after the computer has been on long enough that it's warmed up?When you have the original software on a brand name system computer, the original hard drive always has two partitions, whether you can see the second one in Windows or not.
In that case you may have 29gb of free space on the first partition, logical drive C, but it's not the total free, but already formatted, space on the hard drive.Knowing the amount of free space by itself isn't necessarily helpful info - what's the size of your C partition (your logical C drive)?
Right after it freezes, check the current temps in your bios Setup pages - you may have a case or cpu or power supply overheating problem.
Make sure the power supply fan is blowing air out of the back of the case.
If it isn't, check your PS.
See response 4 in this:
http://www.computing.net/hardware/w...Open up your case.
Make sure the cpu fan is spinning when the computer is running.
If it isn't don't use the computer until you have replaced the fan.If it is spinning
- but it and/or the heatsink under it is filthy, remove the power to the case, clean the fan and heatsink, and if you can easily remove the cpu fan, it is a lot easier to clean the top of the heatsink, which you also need to do.
- if the cpu fan makes rattling or rumbling or screeching sounds, most likely to be noticable when the computer is first turned on after the computer has cooled to room temp, the fan bearings are failing and the fan must be replaced as soon as possible.
