XP freezes after 5 min of use

I've formatted the hard drive and installed XP and now after about 5 min of use it locks up. I am trying to install the sp1 from microsoft but after it reaches about 75% complete it freezes. I don't have any programs on the computer just modem and printer. Nothing else. I have a 40 gig hard drive also. Please help

Could be heat, bad PS, bad RAM. You need to check all of the above as well as any peripheral cards you may have in the system. Trial and error will tell you a lot.
