I'm using the free ZA firewall and have the windows firewall unchecked in ZA. I have SP2. I'd like to turn Xp firewall back on but every time I go to network connections settings and cliclk properties and turn the firewall on it stays on but when i turn my pc off or rebbot the XP firewall disables itself. How can I make it stay enabled.. Thank you for any help. I'm also using Norton anti-virus 2006.

I would guess that you would have to remove ZoneAlarm. You should never run more than one firewall on a system. Unless one is on a router the other on the comp. If you remove za then it should stay on also how have you got your security center set up?.

Which is more effective - ZA or native WinXP Firewall?

I'm sure ZA is more effective. I just thought having both on would be more so.

XP Firewall is only a one way firewall. ZA protects both incoming and outgoing.

Yes XP Firewall is one-way unless you uses Windows OneCare. Windows OneCare firewall protects both incoming and outgoing.

You can run more than one firewall at the same time. I am currently (and have for some time now)running ZA and the SP2 firewall together. They do not fight with each other and my system runs sweet. Go to the Security Centre, click on Windows Firewall at the bottom of the page and turn it on. It should stay on.

Yes, you can run more than one firewall, but why? They both do the same thing and it's just wasting resources.

But note Dick Johnson's post #6. That's pretty important.
