XP Favorites icons change

The custom icons from each Web site I save to my Favorites list change after a few days to the blue IE "e." Any ideas on how to stop this from happening? Thanx.

You'll have to save the site's favicon.ico file and change the shortcut to point to it. Normally IE stores the icons in a temp folder and when the cache is cleared after a few days the icons get deleted.

This happens when the cookies are deleted. The custom icon is saved that way. The only way to avoid deleting your cookies from your favorites would be to selectively delete cookies rather than deleting use the icon of the internet options.

Actually it's not related to cookies. IE stores the site's favicon in the temporary internet files folder. There is a free utility called FavOrg that will scan your favorites list, download the favicons and store them in a permanent location. You can download it here:

Thank you. The FavOrg freeware seems to work well. Many Favorites links are still the default IE "e." I guess a lot of websites don't have a custom icon.
