On 'turn off' computer from windows XP all is normal except instead of that final click which switches off the computer it re-boots again. I have tried all the previous posted suggestions and unplugged everything I do not need. It worked ok until I moved it to a different room, only difference was a different printer and telephone line.

Well, stating XP sucks is one opinion. I, however, do not agree.

When you moved the PC, did you install any new software (since you mention a different printer)?

Do you have Roxio? If so, get the XP update from Roxio.

Mine does that too and I have not been able to stop it regardless what I try. Have tried all the suggestions on this board plus other things too. Luckily, I am dual booting so when it reboots, I go to Win 98 then shut off from there.

I like Win XP but it is hard to believe that Microsoft was not aware of this problem at the time of release. With thousands of beta testers, it had to surface as a major problem.

Maybe they are hoping that as beta testers who paid for the privilege, one of us can come up with the solution.

I am not a believer in lawsuits, but this seems like a very good basis for one.

I feel cheated after buying a supposedly solid program. Their programmers should have been able to fix this before foisting it off on the public.

I too was having shut down problems with xp. My computer was locking up and not shutting down or would take several minutes to shut down.
I went to windows up date and for xp there is three sections. 1. security issues, 2. updated window accessories and 3. updated drivers.
Even thouhg i have a brand new computer with all new hardware windows update found five new drivers. AFTER UPDATEING THESE DIVERS I HAVE HAD NO SHUTDOWN PROBLEMS.
I am loving XP. great networking capabilities, no lock ups. Also works well with my sandisk, which ME never did.
Hope this helps
jj
