My XP is an SP3 version 5.1. I have tried all the tricks I have found online, here among other places. None of them helps on my pc. Not the - HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.avi\shellex\PropertyHandler Delete the “Default” value then close.
or the - Remove this registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}\InProcServer32
I'm currently using the regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll solution, but this is annoying at best not being able to view thumbnails.
Does anybody have another solution to this problem?

One of the articles on another site http://jsbi.blogspot.com/2008/09/ho... solved my problem. The problem was evidently a video codec om some kind. I installed the latest K-Lite Codec package and all my troubles were gone. Thank you SysLock for the link, it was not there I found it, but I wouldent have gone where I went without that link. So thank you for that.
