Having major problems getting my new PC running XP to work with a Terayon always-on cable modem. Initially tried using USB but to no avail (no updated drivers, apparently) and was advised to buy an Ethernet network card instead. Have installed and enabled the Ethernet card, which appears under the LAN/Highspeed Internet settings. The computer recognises it and tells me it's working, but won't connect to the internet. ISP helpline suggested the XP firewall might be blocking it- have disabled this for the connection but still no joy. Only way I've managed to connect so far is via internal dialup 56k modem. Any suggestions?

This page maybe of some use:

Post back if you manage to resolve your problem, as I'm *thinking* about buying Windows XP when it's officially released.

Have you tried: 'start.ntl' ?

The way I got it to work was this....

If it is a brand name network card i.e 3Com, WinXP will use its own generic drivers which seem to work much better.

De-install the drivers re-boot XP and it should install its own generic drivers.

Another problem which I had was the same as your problem, I couldn't get internet access through the cable modem. I resloved it in this way....

Power off the PC, power off the cable modem, wait for 20 seconds and power up the cable modem again. Wait for it to initialise and lock on to the signal, then boot up the PC. It should then re-assign the correct IP for the cable modem which should start with 62.

I hope this helps bud :)

I have exactly the same problem but its even worst.I have a small LAN.First PC runs XP and the second WIN98.For starters,NETBEUI is not supported from XP anymore so kiss that goodbye. Next, randomly I get the modem(Terayon)driver(tbntunic.sys)performing an illegal operation.Terayon won't legalise the b---tard driver and on the website are no drivers what so ever. Now, after all the illegalities all you can do is hot boot the system manually. LAN?You must be joking.Everytime I try to connect to the second PC, the system hangs.I think it has something to do with the IP addressing.WIN98 was working fine.Any ideas for the (X)tra (P)roblems Windows?PLease msg, email, do something cause I lost my temper already.Thanx.
