Win XP Error: The total hard drive capacity in your system has increased. This typically does NOT indicate a hardware failure. Contact your Help Desk if you did not personally change your system's hard-drive configuration or disable devices in System Setup.

did you change anything recently that may have caused the message? does the message appear once only at startup, or when does it appear? Do you sometimes use an external hard drive? Have you "cleaned" or deleted files or uninstalled a few programs, or changed the sys startup before this? Have you installed a program to help "clean" or protect or enhance your computer?
Is a drive unplugged. Do you have some type of hardware unplugged that's usually plugged in. have you scanned for virus, spy/adware?

To answer all your questions: The message appears at startup and sometimes pops up after working a while. The system was new and lots of typical software was installed, Office, Adobe Reader, etc. An external hard drive is used most of the time... sometimes it is connected and other times not (makes no difference with the appearance of the error message. Adobe Acrobat was uninstalled and other document files deleted or moved to another pc. Norton AV is installed, kept updated and scans on a regular basis.
