Comment:

In attempting to install XP Pro into the above PC I came to the following error message:Win XP cannot recognize the partition selected. Cannot install XP on this partition. However, you can go back to the previous screen, delete the partition, then select the resulting partition space. Setup will then create a new partition on which to install XP.
Now for my questions: The HDD size is 10.25MB, currently showing 5.25 free space, will the entire HDD be utilized? Before I do this I want to be complete certain as to what the result/s/ will be. If I select said option and the partition is deleted will I be able to format the resulting partition and install XP onto the entire HDD?
I hope I have made myself clear. I don't want to click on the "delete option" and end up with half a HDD.
Thakns.

you cannot install windows XP on a 10.25 MB hard drive ... end of story.

however, if this is a typo and you mean 10.25 GB, you can delete the existing partition(s) and create a new partition from the unallocated disk space.

Today's subliminal thought is: 'Calm down ... it's only ones and zeros.'

The partition that is not recognized might be a hidden partition that Dell made to put the OS installation files on. You could delete that partition -- however, those files would be gone forever then.
