Maxtor 80 Gig HD (C: - System & E: - Apps)
Quantum 60 Gig HD (D: - Music)
Maxtor 60 Gig HD (G: - Movies)
Maxtor Ultra ATA 100/133 controller
HP CDRW 9600
Saoundblaster audigy
Nvidia GeForceFAT32 not ntfs
DOS see's it as unformatted as wellNorton AntiVirus CE 2002 (Latest Version as of DEC 02
Remember this is the second time this has happened (on two different drives) drive just goes to unformatted do you want to format now, and only in XP. I've done PC's for 10yrs and never had this happen until XP.

yea. What you mean Unformatted?
Was this a fresh install?
How long was XP working until this problem
popped up?

I"m not sure what you mean by unformatted but I'd recommend converting your Fat32 to NTFS. since there are issues with FAt32 limitation on installation up to 32 gig. Maybe it's not related in your case but I'd still convert it to NTFS.
Max

Sorry,
-By unformatted I mean one day it was fine and working and had no issues, the next day when i went to access it, XP error came back with "drive is unformatted do you want to format it now?". Also, in disk manager drive is online, basic, volume is D: (not D:\Music) as it used to be, and is the correct size as well. I do need to correct myself as working on it last night I found if I used a millenium boot disk that I was able to see , access and copy the data to another drive and data is fine however no long file names. I think the MBR is corrupt or no longer ther for XP but DOS is ok.
-No this was not a fresh install, been running for about 6 months, maybe a little less.
-I dont use any power saving or hibernation either. No monitor shutoff, no drive spindowns etc etc.-I have also posted a reply (#5560) which may give some more info.
