XP drive letter??

I just installed XP, and for some strange reason it made E: my system drive letter!
I don't understand why, the drive I installed it on was the Primary Master.
Anyway, right now I can't change it because windows xp tells me "Cannot modify the drive letter of your system or boot drive", so I'm just curious what I need to do when installing XP to make sure that this does not happen again.
