After doing a virus scan, My desktop display settings keep defaulting to the Windows Classic look afer rebooting. If I change the theme to the XP look or change the Colors on the bars to make a "Modified Theme", The changes take effect and stay until I re-boot. When I re-start windows, mysteriously the changes are back to the windows classic colors. The Wallpaper stays however.

Could my theme files be corrupt? Anyone know of any common problems among users and what a possible fix could be? How would I get a good copy of theme files back to my system?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Matt

Matt, SWAG, could be some sort of nasty, scan (be sure it's not a Trojan). Next thought is remembering settings. Perhaps Windows is 'forgetting'? Try setting all as you like and close it using the option under 'file' as opposed to the more convenient 'X' in the corner. That should force Windows to 'remember'.

try running ADAWARE AND SPYBOT SEARCH AND DESTROY to make certain you are not affected by spyware. then turn off you system restore function. then go to www.trojanscan.com and run the online trojan scanner. then put your windows xp cd in the cd drive and go to run and type the following command: cmd enter then type sfc /scannow in the cmd box that comes up. this will do a system file checker to assure that you aren't missing a key file.

when done go back and re-enable your system restore.

Thanks for the replies. I am at work now, so I will have to wait to try these until I get home this evening. I will post back the results later this evening.
