What follows is a post from ViaArena Forum that is most discouraging. An AMD Motherboard user is describing a serious problem with XP and VIA chipset on MB:

http://forums.viaarena.com/messageview.cfm?catid=20&threadid=8500&STARTPAGE=5

"Well I've solved all my problems. It's as everyone has speculated, the problem is totally with the VIA Hardware and/or Via Software drivers for Windows 2000 and XP.

To recap, I had problems with drive corruption on large files copied to the *same* drive and repeated errors for both hard drive and CD-ROM drive logged in the event log. I had backups to disk fail to verify and a whole host of other problems related to data getting corrupted (not just program data, but windows system data such as directory information)." Is anyone familiar with this problem? I have another computer that I want to install XP on. It is an ASUS A7V133 MB with AMD 800 CPU and it has the VIA VT82C686B PCIset. I just purchased a new IBM Deskstar 120GXP 60 Gig Hard Drive and I don't need data corruption.
Thanks for any advice you may have. L Sanders

I just did a build with a gigabyte ga7vrx no problems. Gave it to my sister and decided to build me one I was unable to get the gigabyte board and was suggested that I get asus a7v333 this board has been nothing but problems for me.If you can get the OS to load it will run about three days if you are lucky and then you will get system 32 file missing or corrupt. The shop I bought it at said they have sold 4 of these boards and mine was the only one they had trouble out of. I have a new board on the way as all other parts have been traded out and they cant even get the OS to load. I suggested that they get me an abit or anything else. The drivers that came with the board are not up to xp specs go straight to via and get 4in1 440 chipset drivers first thing. I have yet to read anything good about this board except at toms hardware and maxum pc and OC workbench makes me wondwer of the integrity of all these sources of info. From my experience I would stay away from the asus. If They get me the same board and it works I will post it in overclocking forum as they dont want talk of hardware in this forum. If you can find it I would go with gigabyte ga7vrx. there are more horrer stories at amdmb.com and just punch in a7v333 and problems in google or yahoo and skip on past all the paid reviewers and get to the forums and you will see a lot more than just via arena . I dont think it is a via issue I think it is an asus issue

I have an A7V133 MB and an AMD 1.4 Thunderbird, 1 x 40gig HD and 1 X 80 gig HD, 768 megs mem and a lowly 64mb nVidia mx400.
I dont have any trouble with copying back to same drives or other drives. I have my 2 HD's split into 11 partitions and run a 100 meg Ramdisk on startup.
My system is running XP Pro and I have no problems with it.

I don't imagine KTTD has any heartburn over posting about XP incompatibility issues with hardware that is supposed to run the OS, especially when dealing with data integrity issues. KTTD, please correct me if I am wrong.
