Hi

I updated my laptop (using windows update) on wednesday (15 Oct 2008), and it now seems to be constantly crashing. After a while of running it just hangs, I can't click on anything or do anything, my only option is to hold the power button down!

I am running XP SP3 on a Sony Vaio, and windows is now completely "up to date" according to MS website! The only update I've removed in IE7 as it seemed so slow I couldn't work with it!

Is anyone else having this problem? Any ideas as to which update may be causing this problem? Any ideas why MS continue to release crap?

Cheers

Charlie

It is not that MS is releasing crap. It is just that there are a huge amount of hardware and software out there that it is almost impossible to create software that is compatible with all of the hardware and software at the same time.

Besides nobody is perfect. We often do mistakes. Are you yourself faultless and unmistakable ?

Apart from this, I do not run Windows XP on my machine. I run Vista. Therefore, I do not know about XP updates. But if I find an answer, I will post it for you.

Regards

MS do release crap - they are well known for releaseing upstable updates and software! Look at vista for example - I've had to remove this from several of my friends machines and install XP because it's so unstable!

Yes there are a huge number of hardware and software variations out there, but I'm running a fairly standard machine, with standard components and nothing unusal software wise.

A company with MS's resources should be doing far more testing before releasing their updates.

It is quite simply not acceptable!

shut up.

your machines are probably logged with spyware or something. i deal with many a day and most of these software related issues are due to that.

mmm...

Intel...???

"...your machines are probably logged with spyware or something..."

may be a valid observation, but if the problem "arrive" post latest updates... not a truly safe assumption?

(Is it really necessary to say: "shut up"...?)

Charlie:

Can you get back to a pre updates restore point? And if so does that resolve it - or does the problem persist?

IF any recent update is the cause of your problems then uninstall the updates.

Go to Control panel> add/remove programs. Be sure the box to show updates is checked.

Now look at the install date for the updates and remove anything installed after the start of your problems.

The updates are probably not at fault but that will verify it.

I have removed the updates and that seems to have fixed the problem. When I get some time I will reinstall them one at a time to establish which one it was!

Intel - you obviously have some serious issues, I suggest you see an anger management specialist.

As trvlr pointed out - problem occured post updates!

Anyway, for now problems seem to have been fixed, and all I have done is removed the updates - so this clearly indicates that it is an MS issue!

Thanks to those of u with sensible suggestions - to those of you who just offer abuse and unhelpful comments, go get a life - why waste your time and others by posting useless info or insults

Is the processor in the Laptop an AMD model? If so, that may be the source of the problem. Post back with an answer.
