Subject: XP crashes randomly on install

Comment: Hi all, I'm having som strange install problems with the final version of xp (from .iso). When I try to install my computer will do one of these things: 1) After copying all files, and tries to reboot = bluescreen 2) After copying all files AND reboots = only a blinking cursor 3) After copy AND reboot AND begining to install = reboot and then crash. I have no idea of what is causing this. My config: Abit BX-133, 256Mb RAM, Celeron 950, GeForce 2MX, WD HD (single), 2 WD HD (RAID-0) /Mike

Reply: (edit)Try installing WinXP with another graphics card, Geforce2 is the cause of your problems!. I had the same problem, give it a try!

Reply: (edit)Ok. First you should try and find out who made motherboard so that you can check up on whether or not there is a newer bios for your Motherboard. Because in all my experience with XP and W2K is that etheir your bios need an updating, your drivers are not current enough, or my favorite you got something royally screwed up in the hard drives are configured. THe Other I have seen cuase some problems with the install of XP and W2K is hardware that just isn't going to cut it. I not saying that you should go out and start replacing hardware with newer hardware because even newly released hardware on the market is just as much trouble as the old stuff you replaced it with. I would say that yuo just go through and make sure bios, hardware, and drivers for hardware are all compliant, then it should be smooth sailing from there on out. One good way of showing what happens is with my ATI Radeon 64mb DDR VIVO Video Card and windows XP. It works wonderful as long as you don't stir away from the drivers that XP has for it. And the problem is the VIA Chipset Drivers and the ATI Video Drivers and they both go rounds with who was to blame. But they have finaly got it fixed and I can run the ATI drivers that suport OpenGL and DVD Player better that lets me use any monitor in any mode other than safe mode.

Reply: (edit)I have a bx133 and I had lots of problems with WIN2K. (the same as you have in fact) I installed Millenium and the problems went away. Now they are back with Win XP. When I switch the bus speed to 100 Mhz, my problem disappers. I anyone has any idea (I suspect interrupts) ??
