Since updating my sound card drivers (i presume this is the problem) my computer just freezes intermitantly on every program. Trying to play MP3 is a waste of time. Except I have rolled back to the previous driver. Even taken my card out and reinstalled it and its still doing the same thing. Any other ideas? Virtual memory is fine

Check Device Manager to see if there is a problem with maybe drivers.

Windows XP has a lot of problems with a myrid of hardware. Check out the following support site from Microsoft.
Under the Advanced Search & Help, type in "Windows XP hangs on everything", or "Sound driver hangs Windows XP" or whatever........may help, good luck!

Is it a Sound Blaster (maybe 16 PCI). I have experienced a lot of problem with that card! I am not sure (a lot of strange stuff happen when you own a PC) but I think the best thing to do, was to only install the drivers and not the s--- (useless programs) that often comes on the original CD.

Click - START - HELP and find the "last known good condition".
This should set back the computer to an earlier point. (That is if you have enabled the feature).

Your best bet is to trash the drivers yourself. Windows likes to keep drivers incase you reinstall hardware. It may also help to use Creatives site to get other drivers, else you are probably having a hard ware conflict. Just be warn if you have an AGP video card, don't put any video or sound cards in the next slot under it, that's a shared resource PnP PCI.
