My computer had not been giving me any issuses but just recently for no apperent reason my computer has become very unstable, it first started by locking up when viewing avis in windows media player, it wold freeze up and just just repeat the same sound over the one where it go frozen at like a skipping cd player that is stuck, then it started doing this when i would play everquest, i completely reformated my computer, thinking bad drivers may be causing the issue, still occured, btw the vid card is a geforce 4 ti 4400, so i checked for updated bios, motherboard is abit-kg7, updated the bios, still not any more stable, went and tried new ram corsair value select pc-2100 256, that didn't work any better so, i basically put both sticks and was using 512 mb of memory, after that it was no more stable or any less stable then before, i am going to just upgrade my computer to all the things that i think would be wrong so i am getting a new proc, new mem, and new mother board. was just looking here for suggestions until the new peices arivive and i think i may be turning these peices into a server if i can ever get them stable again, I have read most of the posts on this issue and they didn't make a noticiable difference.

Was your Abit motherboard made before or after the release of the Athlon XP processor? AMD made a minor frequency change to the XP processor that made most motherboards that were made before its release obsolete. Being a socket A did not matter. My Abit KT7A version 1.2 motherboard instructions said it would support the XP but in fact did not. After much pain and suffering on my part, Abit finely came out and said that only version 1.3 KT7A motherboard would support the XP processor. That is because the 1.3 was released after the XP processor. I am informing you of all this because you sound like what I was going through. Anyway, I hope I may have helped ?????

Just a question, are you playing these movies, off a cd-rom drive?
I have a similar problem with some games that run of cd's.
if it was just movies, i would think a codec problem :-/
What type of soundcard are you using?

it can be playing off movies or cd or the harddrive, sound card is sound blaster live 5.1, as for the mother board date it should be compliant with the proc becuase i bought them both at the same time i am not for sure the verison of the board though.

You might need to do your homework on the motherboard dates like I did. Just because you bought the XP processor and the motherboard at the same time does not mean it will support the XP processor. Like I said, do not let that socket A thing fool you. My mom and pop computer store I shop at did not know this. He thought all KT7A motherboards suported the XP processor. Anyway, I am not trying to be a smarty pants but this was a pain in the A** for me and my computer was down for more than a month till after I did all my homework and finely got everything right.
