Vista and Windows 7 will repair a flash disk if they decide it is necessary. There might well be some command in these systems to initiate this. As far as I am aware this facility does not exist in XP, therefore there will be no command.

You can reformat as already given but that of course means the Flash Drive will no longer contain any data.
