yes i was trying to get rid of XP..but having problems with ms-dos..so can't install win98..so smarty me wants to reinstall the winXP then remove the hardware..because someone told me that I can do that..since I can't delete winXP on my add and remove hardware..

no XP cd..XP was already install when I received the laptop. yes.I have the 98 cd.. XP was upgraded from microsoft ME.. basically I just want to get rid of everything..i mean everything..so i just want the XP on the laptop..basically start anew..

change boot device to floppy boot with win 98 or me floppy (start up disk) format c then run fdisk to set partition(s) change boot device to cd rom put in xp cd and your away

If the XP was Pre-installed then what you're using is a Vendor's 'recovery' disk of some sort - yes - no?
If you're doing a complete Re-install to 'factoery condition' then at some point as you say it will ask for the Product Key\Code
Vendors ususlly stick this on the Case somewhere visible - have you looked underneath the Laptop?
OR if if was an Upgrade from ME as you say then won't you need the ME disk for verification??
