If the XP was Pre-installed then what you're using is a Vendor's 'recovery' disk of some sort - yes - no?

If you're doing a complete Re-install to 'factoery condition' then at some point as you say it will ask for the Product Key\Code

Vendors ususlly stick this on the Case somewhere visible - have you looked underneath the Laptop?

OR if if was an Upgrade from ME as you say then won't you need the ME disk for verification??

Lesley
